Last week I had an opportunity of staying in Daspalla while we were holidaying in Vizag. It is a nice hotel in the heart of the city. We took an Auto from the railway station to Daspalla for Rs. 25/-. There are two Daspalla hotel in Vizag and this one is near Jagadamba theatre. Make sure you mention that to the Auto guy.
The hotel reseption was great and the check in time was less than 2 min and we were in a confortable room. I had bookd a Double room and was told that the double rooms have twin beds and if you need a King bed you need to upgrade the same to Deluxe room Whichc osts Rs.2 00 more than the double room. I had no option but to upgrade the same. I was upgraded further to a superior room by the hotel folks themselves (Which was good on their part). This Hotel has a 24 hr checkout which is very convenient. We checked in at 3PM and Checkout at 4-30 pm on the Third day.
This hotel has 4 restaurants - Dharani, Dakshin, Vaishaki and Dimple. Dharani and Vaishaki are oure veg while Dakshin serves Non veg and Dimple ahs a Bar attached to it. The food was good yet very affordable. This resulted in overcrowding of the restaurants with wait times more than 45 min at times. There is no priority for Guests staying in the same hotel. This was a real pain for us. We had to either wait in the lobby for 30-45 min or order food in the room.
Every day we had good Buffet Breakfast (Which is included in the tarrif) and a Thali meal for Luinch and snacks for Dinner.
RK Beach is the closest beach to this location and an Auto takes Rs. 20/- to take you there.
Rishikonda beach is much further and costs 70 Rs/- by auto. Autos don't run on Meter hence you need to bargain a price.
There are good spots far out of the town, like Simhachalam temple or Yarada beach, for which you need to hire a taxi. DO NOT HIRE TAXI Within the Daspalla complex. They overcharge you. Just outside the rear gate of the hotel you find Taxi operators who are reasonable and give you good service. We hired a taxi for 6 hours for Rs. 650 and went to Simhachalam temple, Dolphin Noase lighthouse and Yarada beach.
